The
number one activity for kung fu schools during Chinese New Year has got to be
Lion Dancing. The Lion heads vary greatly in style and colour. The Northern style
Lions have muzzles resembling dogs, and are deep orange and red in colour. The Southern
style Lions have flatter faces more closely resembling lions, but are decorated with a horn and
two antenna style whiskers.
Many of our audience often refer to Lion dancing as Dragon dancing. However,
Lions consist of two people sitting inside a suit, whereas Dragons require more than 2 people
who lift the dragon above them on poles!!
